March 9th, 2011 – SEC Seminar and Dinner Meeting

NEW DETAILS FOR MASONRY CONSTRUCTION

Presenter: Richard Filloramo

This presentation will highlight new details, materials and specifications for masonry construction.  It will address structural considerations and stress the importance of coordination between the structural engineer and architect.   Specific topics include: Structural Masonry, New Rainscreen Walls, New Adhered Veneer Systems, Masonry Veneers, AAC Walls, Flashing, Tops of Walls, Shelf Angles, Accent Bands, Columns, Beams, Single Wythe Masonry, Movement Joints, Design Criteria, Cavity Walls, Exterior CMU, Moisture Control and more.  It will also include IBC 2009, and MSJC Masonry 530 Code updates. 

Richard Filloramo is Area Director of Market Development and Technical Services for the International Masonry Institute New England Region - Connecticut / Rhode Island Office.  He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architecture from Ohio State University and an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology.  He has more than 35 years of experience in the masonry industry.  He served as the national IMI liaison for building codes and standards and is a member of the Masonry Standards Joint Committee, the code writing body responsible for the Masonry 530 Code. He has served on numerous committees and has been a member of The Masonry Society, American Institute of Architects, US Green Building Council, CEFPI, National Concrete Masonry Association, Brick Institute of America, Construction Specification Institute, Building Safety Seismic Committee of NEHRP, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, ASTM, ICC, USGBC, CTGBC and several other national and regional organizations.  He has written many technical papers, spearheaded efforts to educate the industry on new masonry codes and design requirements for masonry construction, and lectured across the country.  Mr. Filloramo has been involved with the design, construction and inspection of more than 5,000 building projects.
